Technical Retrofit for Preventing Coal Blockages in the Coal Drop Chute of Circulating Fluidized Bed Boilers at Thermal Power Plants

2025-09-11

Coal chutes are the generic term for coal‑conveying pipelines used in industries such as coal mining, port operations, thermal power generation, coal storage and transfer facilities, coal preparation plants, and coal‑fired industrial boilers.

Coal chutes are the generic term for coal‑handling pipelines used in industries such as coal mining, port operations, thermal power generation, coal storage terminals, coal preparation plants, and coal‑fired industrial boilers. A typical coal chute comprises components like a coal hopper, a downcomer, and a flow‑diverting trough. For longer chutes, airlock devices are often added to minimize dust emissions. Additionally, when diverting flow, auxiliary components such as diverter flap gates may be installed.

The internationally advanced coal‑falling pipe technology, known as IFT (inertial flow transfer), has not yet been widely adopted in China due to its relatively high cost.

The coal‑fall pipe anti‑blocking device is a newly developed system designed to address the frequent arching and blockages in the coal‑feeding systems of circulating fluidized‑bed boilers at thermal power plants. It is also suitable for clearing and discharging materials in conveying lines across industries such as chemicals, cement, and pharmaceuticals. This equipment operates safely and conveniently, does not occupy internal space within the conveying line, and does not impede material flow. It is easy to install, simple to operate, and delivers stable performance, supporting both manual and automatic control.

The rectangular chute is equipped with a high-frequency vibrating liner, while an external high-frequency vector exciter is mounted on the chute. The internal high-frequency vibrating liner efficiently clears and dislodges accumulated, blocked material at the chute bottom, enabling the material to regain fluidity under its own gravity, as shown in the figure below.

When the moisture content of the raw material in the coal‑falling and conveying pipes exceeds 10%, its flowability decreases and its viscosity increases. The material gradually adheres to the pipe walls, layer by layer, eventually leading to complete blockage of the conveying pipe and halting material transport. The anti‑blocking device for coal‑falling pipes uses a drive shaft to rotate a flexible cleaning ring, which closely conforms to the inner wall of the pipe and alternately rotates left and right in a cyclical motion. This effectively removes material that has adhered to the pipe’s inner surface, preventing the formation of adhesive blockages—particularly delivering outstanding results in clearing coal‑falling pipes used in circulating fluidized bed boilers. After installation, operators no longer need to worry about moisture levels affecting the normal operation of the coal‑falling pipes, significantly reducing downtime and maintenance costs caused by blockages, lowering workers’ physical workload, improving operational efficiency, and helping enterprises achieve greater economic benefits.

The operating principle of the coal chute clearing and cleaning machine is shown in the figure:

The design philosophy of the coal chute blockage‑clearing equipment prioritizes prevention: flexible cleaning rings rotate periodically in both forward and reverse directions, thoroughly cleaning the inner walls of the chute and ensuring unobstructed material flow…

Features: Simple installation, low power consumption, high torque, automatic periodic operation, and no need for on-site operator supervision.

Select the appropriate silo equipment to enhance operational efficiency.

Choosing the right silo equipment to boost operational efficiency: In many industries, silos are indispensable. Imagine a factory’s workflow as a grand symphony—each instrument must work in harmony to produce a beautiful melody. Similarly, a silo acts as the conductor, coordinating every stage and ensuring that each component operates smoothly. So how do you select the appropriate silo equipment to enhance productivity? Understanding Silo Types First, it’s essential to identify the various types of silos available. The market offers a range of options, including circular silos, square silos, pneumatic conveying silos, and more. Each type has its own unique functions and advantages. Just as pianos and violins serve different purposes, you should choose based on your specific needs. For instance, if you need to store bulk materials, a circular silo may be the better choice, offering high storage efficiency while occupying minimal floor space. On the other hand, square silos are ideal for applications requiring frequent material access, facilitating easier management and control. At this point, ask yourself: what kind of storage solution best meets your current requirements? Considering Material Properties Next, when selecting silo equipment, you must also take into account the characteristics of the materials being stored. Different materials have distinct storage requirements. For example, powdered substances…

Selection Criteria for Double-Position Vibration Unloading and Dredging Equipment for Fine Ore Silos

The use of single-point vibration or asymmetrically vibrating equipment is strictly prohibited to prevent material flow deviation and the formation of rat-holing blockages. Fixed-frequency, non‑adjustable models are also forbidden, as they cannot accommodate the dynamic dry–wet variations of fine ores. Large‑amplitude, high‑impact machines should be avoided to prevent compaction of powdered materials and exacerbation of caking issues. Non‑standard, rudimentary equipment is likewise prohibited to avert failures such as vibration loss, equipment cracking, and shortened service life. Overall, the selection process must adhere to the core principles of symmetrical excitation, gentle fluidization, variable‑frequency adjustment, wear resistance and explosion protection, and comprehensive unblocking across all operating conditions.
